Vihaa at Vaki Dam is a 4,198 sq. ft. sustainable farmhouse set across 1.5 acres on the edge of Vaki Dam, Igatpuri. Designed for Pravin and Shilpa Panat of Mumbai, the project is an architectural response to its site — a landscape of water, hills, and open sky that demanded a building capable of holding stillness and openness in equal measure. The design draws from vernacular building traditions while integrating contemporary passive cooling and lighting strategies, producing a retreat that is energy-conscious, materially grounded, and experientially calm. Vihaa was recognised at FOAID Festival of Architecture and Interior Designing with an award for Outstanding Villa under 5,000 sq. ft.
The dam, the hills, and the sky are the primary design elements. The building organises them.

OUR CORE APPROACH
Vernacular material.Contemporary strategy. One building that belongs entirely to its site.
The plan is organised around a central cortile an open courtyard that serves as the primary source of natural light and air movement within the building, drawing daylight deep into the interior while creating a spatial anchor around which all rooms are arranged. Kerala-inspired abstract columns rise through this courtyard, illuminated by indirect light from above. Skylights amplify the sense of openness, and handmade tile flooring connects the interior back to the earth beneath it.
